Waited in line for 3 hours to be the first one front and center, battling the blistering cold and rain. But I gotta say, this is the best show I’ve ever been to. All bands had amazing presence and I was completely blown away by how good O’Brother is live. The Thrice encore was one for the books. First with “Phoenix Ignition” and then ending the night with “To Awake and Avenge the Dead.”
Going alone wasn’t so bad after all either, met a bunch of cool peeps.
*Have video but the kicks were so deep and the bands were too loud that it blared out my shitty phone mic, meh.
La Dispute - New Storms for Older Lovers (live at some small ass venue lol)
Been listening to La Dispute’s discog this past week. 4 more days til they come up to the city with Thrice and right now I’m getting a little bit more excited to see these guys than Thrice themselves. Hoping to pickup their new LP “Wildfire” at the show if they’ll have any left after everyones set is over.
Just bought my ticket to the upcoming Thrice show in November at the Regency Center in San Francisco. I’ve had a fair share of memorable experiences at this venue, the first seeing Fall Out Boy before any of the MTV coverage, before Pete Wentz grew his emo swoop out and before Patrick Stump completely lost the weight equivalent to an average sized 20 year old male.
My second experience at this venue was at a Less Than Jake show maybe 3 years ago now. The minute I decide to step into the skank pit (The Ska equivalent to a mosh pit, no it does not involve skanks) someone hits the back of my head which causes my glasses to fly off my face and to its demise, needless to say I never saw those glasses again and I was left squinting at the stage barely making out anything for the rest of the show.
Alas, after 7 long years I am once again going to see my all time favorite act in music today. They put on a hell of a show in Sacramento when I last saw them, as Thrice was demoing songs that would eventually end up on their 4th record Vheissu. It was one of the most energetic and intimate shows I’d ever been to (the venues ceiling was so low that if you stage dived you’d probably get knocked super bad by one of the venues ceiling fans) and with support from acts like La Dispute, O’Brother and Moving Mountains I haven’t been this excited for a show since I saw Brand New at SJSU in 2009. Major/Minor is still on my turntable and I need to hear these songs performed live, regardless if I go it alone or not. But anyone who is down to go is more than welcome to!
