This is coming out sooner than I expected, fuck.
Thrice - Anthology (new song) Live at The Yost Theater.
These guys never cease to make my hair stand on end and send chills down my spine whenever they debut a new song. I have my Vinyl copy pre-ordered, Major/Minor is about to make me cry tears of joy.
Here’s a lyric video for our new song “Promises” from Major/Minor out on 9/20.
Thrice - Anthology (studio version)
Our lives built on tin cans and string
But the cornerstone laid is a wondrous and beautiful thing
Sure in the ground
While the North wind is taking it’s toll
You have helped me to find my way back and to anchor my soul
Safe in the sound
Oh you know me
Oh and I know you
And I know that
We can see this through
I’m brack and baring my bones
Said if we heard the howling
I’d run out to face it alone
To meet it half way
But I’ve still got badges to earn
So keep sifting my soul
Cause I think that I’m starting to learn
To love you that way
Oh you know me
Oh and I know you
And I know that
We can see this through
It’s true that you could snap my neck
I trust you’ll save my life instead
Cause our love is a loyalty sworn
If we hold to our hope
Then I know we can weather the storm
Whatever they say
Come what may
Oh you know me
Oh and I know you
And I know that
We can see this through .
I’ve always appreciated heavy bands dipping into the theme of Love with their lyrics, Dustin Kensrue embodies the emotion in words so damn well. Teppei’s guitar riff during the Chorus’ make my hairs stand on end.
If and when I find that someone that I’ll be spending the rest of my life with, I know immediately that this song is gonna be playing in my head.
Best goddamn song they’ve written IMO.
Recently read an interview from the OC Weekly regarding the release of Thrice’s new album Major/Minor and it blows my mind to see pictures of how much older they all have gotten. I got into this band when I was a Sophomore in high school at about 15-16 years old, when 3 out of the 4 members of thrice were still were in their late teens, early twenties. It blows my mind that some of these guys are now family men in their late to mid thirties with Dustin’s wife just given birth to their third daughter. I know I spam every bit of Thrice that comes my way but it’s really amazing that they’re the only band I’ve witnessed grow up through their music and in turn have been cornerstones in periods of my life with each new release they put out. From the punk and metal influences of Identity Crisis to the folk and melodic tones of Major/Minor, it’s been a crazy ride these past 13 years.

Last bit of Thrice that I’ll post since this just dropped.
Picked up a vinyl copy of Major/Minor today since today is the official release of the digital and disc versions of the album. This is the first piece of vinyl I’ve picked up in I’d say two plus years and this is definitely worth every penny that I dropped. The first pressing was limited to 4,000 copies worldwide and was pressed with clear blue splatter double vinyl which looks sexy as fuck. Along with the limited pressing comes in depth liner notes in typical Thrice fashion, describing the writing process and what went through each members minds as they contributed to the song. I especially like reading Dustin’s comments and what types of themes and emotions he wanted to convey in each song with his lyrics.
Definitely album of the Year.
Just bought my ticket to the upcoming Thrice show in November at the Regency Center in San Francisco. I’ve had a fair share of memorable experiences at this venue, the first seeing Fall Out Boy before any of the MTV coverage, before Pete Wentz grew his emo swoop out and before Patrick Stump completely lost the weight equivalent to an average sized 20 year old male.
My second experience at this venue was at a Less Than Jake show maybe 3 years ago now. The minute I decide to step into the skank pit (The Ska equivalent to a mosh pit, no it does not involve skanks) someone hits the back of my head which causes my glasses to fly off my face and to its demise, needless to say I never saw those glasses again and I was left squinting at the stage barely making out anything for the rest of the show.
Alas, after 7 long years I am once again going to see my all time favorite act in music today. They put on a hell of a show in Sacramento when I last saw them, as Thrice was demoing songs that would eventually end up on their 4th record Vheissu. It was one of the most energetic and intimate shows I’d ever been to (the venues ceiling was so low that if you stage dived you’d probably get knocked super bad by one of the venues ceiling fans) and with support from acts like La Dispute, O’Brother and Moving Mountains I haven’t been this excited for a show since I saw Brand New at SJSU in 2009. Major/Minor is still on my turntable and I need to hear these songs performed live, regardless if I go it alone or not. But anyone who is down to go is more than welcome to!
Waited in line for 3 hours to be the first one front and center, battling the blistering cold and rain. But I gotta say, this is the best show I’ve ever been to. All bands had amazing presence and I was completely blown away by how good O’Brother is live. The Thrice encore was one for the books. First with “Phoenix Ignition” and then ending the night with “To Awake and Avenge the Dead.”
Going alone wasn’t so bad after all either, met a bunch of cool peeps.
*Have video but the kicks were so deep and the bands were too loud that it blared out my shitty phone mic, meh.
One year. Twelve months. 365 days. 8,766 hours. 52,949 minutes. 31,556,926 seconds. It can seem like forever, but it’ll pass in a flash. I can’t wrap my head around how much has happened in the past 31,556,926 moments but I know that they all have the potential to matter, and that it’s incredibly important to never lose sight of that.
Download it here.
note: I wrote this on the piano at my mom’s house a few nights ago and pieced it together in Reason over the past two days. I hope you enjoy it.—released 16 December 2011
Riley on the come up with some ambient noise. This is a perfect winter track, the kick along with the key loop in the background provide a dark and gloomy groove.
